Principal/Senior Scientist, Statistical Genetics

The Company:

FL86, Inc. is a privately held, early-stage company developing a novel genomics platform and therapeutics for diseases with a large unmet need.

Position Summary:

  • Lead statistical genetics effort to leverage population genetics in the setting of a novel genomics platform to gain and integrate insights into complex disease biology across multiple different therapeutic areas to successfully drive programs in support of the discovery platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee data set curation including UKBB, FinnGen, and usage of the GWAS catalog and OpenTargets to derive population genetics insights into diseases and traits of interest
  • Perform and interpret GWAS, exome sequencing, and WGS analyses across multiple disease areas
  • Use innovative genomic analyses and their application to complex human traits
  • Work with computational colleagues to integrate germline genetics datasets with other modalities including bulk RNAseq, scRNA seq, and other more novel modalities
  • Use Mendelian randomization to elucidate causal mechanisms, pathway information and other functional data to prioritize effector genes and causal mechanisms and information across multiple traits or variants to generate insights
  • Critically review and provide feedback on analyses plans, results and summaries to ensure they are accurate and reliable. Identify potential problems and propose remedies or refinements
  • Collaborate with computational and biology colleagues to leverage insights derived from statistical genetics for program decision making
  • Identify and manage external collaborations and consultants

Qualifications:

  • PhD with 7+ years of experience in statistical genetics and analysis and interpretation of large data sets
  • 5+ years of industry experience preferred
  • Demonstrated scientific knowledge of disease biology, experimental design and execution, translation of genotype phenotype associations to mechanism
  • Deep understanding of the role of statistical genetics in drug discovery across multiple different therapeutic areas
  • Demonstrated ability to: i) to establish clear key priorities, ii) objectively assess complex data sets, iii) make informed decisions and to take action in the face of uncertainty.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and balance a broad set of priorities
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills across all levels within an organization and with external partners
