Job Description
HPE's AI-at-scale group is offering an internship opportunity to help build software for the next generation of AI/ML workflows on high performance computing (HPC) systems. In this internship, the applicant will have the opportunity to incorporate the open source HPE SmartSim library into traditional HPC simulations to enable novel AI/ML HPC workflows. Through these simulation integrations, the applicant will have the opportunity to propose, design, and implement novel API features in the SmartSim library. Moreover, applicants will have the opportunity to test their workflows on exascale-class hardware. The aforementioned simulations may include one or more of the following domains: computational fluid dynamics, climate modeling, molecular dynamics, computational chemistry, engineering design.
How You'll Make Your Mark
- Contribute to the SmartSim open source community, pushing forward AI/ML innovations for scientific and engineering discovery
- Implement AI/ML workflows in a scientific subdomain to refine and expand SmartSim API capabilities
- Design, implement, and integrate new features at various levels on the software stack
- Collaborate with other team members to design and deliver high-quality, performant and testable software that can be deployed consistently
- Interact with internal and external collaborators to accelerate AI/ML adoption in traditional HPC workflows
About You
- Required: Enrolled in a Bachelor, Master's, or Ph.D. program in computer science or engineering program
- Required: Experience writing scalable software in C, C++, Fortran, or Python
- Preferred: Expertise in computational fluid dynamics, climate modeling, molecular dynamics, computational chemistry, engineering design, or similar field
- Preferred: Experience with a scientific simulation code in the scientific domain of interest
- Preferred: Understanding of AI/ML workflows within a scientific domain
- Preferred: Experience with High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems and HPC system components
- Preferred: Understanding of AI and ML methods and toolkits
