Scope of the role

Contribute to the whole range of teaching and administration.

Teaching is likely to include: (a) development (including programme/module review) and leadership of the civil engineering programmes in Dubai; and (b) enhancement of the student experience or employability, that is of manifest benefit to the College and the University. The role will typically also involve developing and advising others, including (a) providing expert advice to staff and students and (b) developing and advising others on learning and teaching tasks and methods.

Main Duties

Contribute to leading curriculum development and renewal
Make a significant contribution to the pedagogical knowledge base of construction management that advances teaching through the enhancement of practice, the development of teaching resources and practice-based research
Lead on the management and the development of approaches to teaching and learning, including designing innovative approaches and supporting colleagues to use them in the subject area or institution.
Deliver (where appropriate to the discipline) specific professional programmes
Advance the practice of teaching in construction management within the school, and play an essential role in student academic support
To use various methods of teaching and advising individuals and groups of undergraduates, postgraduates, or CPD students.
Where appropriate to the discipline, this may include:
Teach and examine courses at a range of levels in core construction management subjects, including, for example, engineering project and risk management, sustainable construction, and systems engineering
Make essential contributions to the development and running of the Department or School, for example, leading activity on teaching assessment
Lead successful international engagement at the School or College level
Develop and manage staff and resources in support of significant teaching activities

Person Specification

Typically, a higher Degree (usually PhD) relevant to civil engineering or a closely related discipline or equivalent experience or qualifications
Demonstrated excellence in Learning and Teaching, management, and administration
Evidence of success under the following headings.
A high national reputation for the development of teaching and learning excellence within civil engineering/ construction management
Successful and sustained performance in significant administrative/managerial role (s) (e.g., exams officer)
Significant and sustained high-quality, innovative contributions to the management/administration of the Department/School/College or University.
